I am walking again :D

Hi everyone!

I have been working really hard, but I am now walking again not completely without support yet, but I am on my feet and almost walking at a "normal" rate of speed with canes. It's such hard work and painful at times, but I am stubborn and will keep fighting till I, hopefully, walk without canes. Doctors say I'll most likely be needing at least one for the rest of life because my right knee doesn't bend completely and so doesn't provide enough support for cane-less walking. I don't mind - I am alive, I am up and I am walking which means I am still (somewhat) independent of others' help for everyday things. It was such a relief the day I could get out of bed again on my own. Such a thing which is taken for granted by us. Before the accident I never thought of such matters that appeared so small that they didn't even exist in thought processes - I just did it. But now...wow...what a feeling to be able to get out of bed on my own, get dressed on my own, eat on my own etc etc.

I am learning to cope with the loss of my mama and brother; I am going through the grieving process - so far I've denied that they were dead by simply telling myself they were just "out of town", I've been angry with them for dying and leaving us behind, I've even been angry with God for taking them asking him why etc., and I've cried millions of tears of sadness. I think of them everyday; everyday there are little things that remind me of them but I am beginning to replace tears with smiles when I think of them, and I know they are in a good place and I believe I will see them again in another life. I tell myself that they were done here with whatever task they were sent here to do / learn and that I and others in our family have more to do / learn.

I would like to thank everyone here who sent me so much love and support, and I do my best to be a more regular visitor to this site again, and contribute where I can.

Thanks for posting your progress. You are doing amazingly well.

Someone posted a YouTube video a while back about a man who healed himself and was able to go from walking with sticks to running (despite doctors saying it was impossible) through yoga practise. I will post the link again if I can find it.

You have truly inspired many of us on this post.............it takes a lot of courage to go thru all that and yet come out of it...........in the movie secret there was a story about a child who was healed using gratitude stone.........well all its says it to be thank ful for all that u have.........although it also says to be thank ful for your desires , feel like u would feel wen they are manifested and be thank full for them..............for eg, u desire to walk easily n without any support so u can be grateful for being able to walk easily without any support, like ur desire has already manifested and at the same being thankful for other things in life..

It is so bitter-sweet MeraBaccha.  We are all here for you.  You told your dad you would be walking within 6 months and you achieved your goal.  Allow yourself to feel the grief.  With each breath, moment and day it will get better.

I received this message on the original thread of my story, by spreadthejoy, and I thought it deserved to be here as well as it fals in line with much of what else has been told to me here:

I'm so sorry to hear of what you've been through, but it's also so clear that you are such a strong survivor. You will get there - you can tell that just from reading your posts.Grief is normal, allow it so that it can pass through you. If you shut it out, this will hurt you more in the long run. There's room for both - you can still focus on the positive healing journey as you recover. If you can accept your pain as the healing process that it is, it doesn't have to block other good things from happening to you. I believe we live in a kind universe - yes, positivity helps, but I like to think it understands when sometimes we just need to heal. There's always room to make up for it later, it doesn't take much positivity to counteract the tears once you reach that point. And don't put too much pressure on yourself at this time - there's a time for giving and a time for receiving, so allow yourself to take these positive vibes and wishes from the forum, you don't need to give anything back. That time will come when you are ready (and it will come). My thoughts are with you and your family. You have shown amazing courage and strength, and anything you feel is normal and OK - don't fight yourself - just love yourself xxxxx
