How I Attracted a New Apartment!
« on: June 11, 2012, 04:51:03 AM »
Hi All,

I am new to this board, but I have been an avid student of LOA since I was in high school.  I moved to a big city 3 years ago after college, and have been living in an apartment that I did not like with one problem after another (mice, roaches, water leaks, dogs barking all day, etc.). I have tried to move out each year, but I have never been able to find another place that I liked.

I decided to give moving another go.  I started out with writing down a list of everything that I wanted in an apartment, including the possibility of having a roommate.  Another key thing that I did was that I put in 60 days notice to my property manager of my current apartment, even thought I have not found another place yet. I think this was key in helping to shift my mindset of finding an apartment from one of despair to one of hope and excitement.

Then I posted a craigslist ad saying that I was looking for an apartment. I also spent each day looking through all of the craigslist ads that matched my "must have" list. The first place I saw was in an area of town that I had not considered originally. I did not like the place at all, but it helped me to fine tune my must have list. I now had another new area of town to consider! The second place was filthy, but it opened my eyes to the possibility of having my own bathroom and my want for a clean apartment. The third place was great, but the bedroom was definitely smaller than what I would have wanted. I then refined my "must have" list to have a good sized bedroom. I began to get more excited about the apartment search. Even though I was not finding exactly what I wanted, I was getting to see all different parts of town and getting to see what different kinds of apartments are out there.

The next place I saw was great, but it was small. However, it was really close to a grocery store. I added wanting my next apartment to be near a grocery store to my must have list. Then, the next place I saw was in the same location as the first apartment that I saw. It is a very vibrant area with a whole foods, a starbucks, and lots of street festivals. However, the apartment was old and creaky, and it had a roof deck (which was on my list of must haves), but I quickly realized that I didn't want to live in a fixer upper and that I am afraid of heights. However, the price was great and the location was unbeatable. The prospective roommate told me that I would be crazy to pass this apartment up. I was so confused. The apartment literally had everything on my list, but something did not feel right.

Then, the Universe began to show me synchronicities. I turned on my computer on Friday morning, and noticed that I had craigslist open in a tab from Thursday. One of the links on the page looked to be bold when the others were not. It read "2BR/2BA". I definitely remembered going through all of those posts already, but I decided to click on it.  And guess what? It was the same price as the creeky apartment, and only two two blocks away from it! Even better was that it was recently renovated and had all new appliances and new floors and fresh paint. I immediately called the property manager to set up a showing. I went and saw it on Monday and it was love at first sight! She let me know that the apartment was available, but that I would have to find a roommate before I could put down a deposit.

I only have 3 true friends in this city, and one of which I knew was looking for a new apartment. However, when I had asked her about the possibility of being roommates earlier in the year,  she declined because she wanted to live alone. Something told me to give her a call anyways. It turns out that her apartment search was going horribly, and that day she had decided to give up looking at apartments for a while. I asked her to take a look at pictures of the apartment in case she was interested. She took one look at the pictures and asked, "Where do I sign?"

Today, we signed the lease with the property manager. From start to finish, it took me less than 2 months to find an apartment and I owe it all to LOA and my positive attitude.

So, if you are looking for an apartment or something similar, here were the steps I followed.

1. Write a list (but be open to things on this list changing!)
2. Do things that move you toward your goal (let people know that you want to move, post a craigslist ad, collect pictures of pretty interior design.)
3. Most important: ***ENJOY the process of finding the apartment!!!*** Even if you get frustrated sometimes, just know that what you want will only flow to you when you are a vibrational match to it! If you say "I hate apartment searching, I will never find anything" then that is the results that you will produce.
4. Show gratitude!!!

Thanks for reading this very long story lol and let me know if you have any questions!

Great story, thanks for sharing. I had a similar experience, we kept looking but nothing was catching our eye. We even signed a lease on one place we didn’t really like that much, and we were set to move in when I felt like we should keep looking. I followed my intuition and found a great place out of the blue, in a very popular location I couldn’t dream would have a free place.

Also I think the process you wrote should be followed for anything you are trying to attract. Just change the word apartment and I think you got the key to what LoA is all about.

This is so wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

Could you share though: how'd you stay optimistic instead of pessimistic when you put your 60 day notice in?

(I would've been like 'Oh crap! This better work or I'm screwed!) o_0

Great question! To put it simply, if you believe that something is impossible, by default it cannot exist/manifest in your reality.  My mindset therefore had to be "I am putting in my 60 days notice because I know that my apartment is out there and I will find it. Even though in the past 2 years I have not been able to find one, I WILL move find a new apartment this year because I believe that it is possible."

If I had not put in my 60 days notice and just waited to "see what happens", I would have been sabotaging myself because I would have been operating under the mindset that "The universe MIGHT be able to provide a new apartment for me, but I don't trust it completely. I won't put in my notice until the universe shows me that finding a new apartment is possible."

See the difference? By putting in the 60 days notice I was affirming that I had faith that the universe would deliver, even though I had no physical evidence to show for it and even though I had a horrible track record with attempting to move out. You have to commit 100% to what you want.

Let me know if that answers your question! :-)

Thanks.

By the way, what helped you the most? Was it affirmations, visualizations, something else?

Thanks.

It was the fact that I changed my mindset. I made sure that I saw everything as an opportunity. I used to be a professional self sabotager. I didn't believe that I was deserving of having good things, so I would limit my beliefs. If there was something I wanted, I would maybe try a little bit, but at the first setback, I would give up. This time, I used every setback and turned it around into ammo to help me get my new apartment. If I wasn't having luck on craigslist, I started calling realtors. If the realtors weren't working, I turned to Facebook. If Facebook wasn't working, I was going to try the newspaper. If that didn't work, I would try craigslist again.

I didn't do meditation or visualizations per se, but I did start visiting a lot of interior design blogs and saving pictures of things that I liked. I also collected recipes for appetizers and cocktails that wanted to serve at my "housewarming" party.

Overall I would attribute my success to my positive mindset.

That's encouraging.

I struggle with self sabotage myself.

I hear that letting go is important to actually receiving.  How'd you let go about it, if you're trying so hard to get it?

That is where prayer comes in lol. I was getting borderline obsessed with apartment hunting. I would sit at my desk at work and refresh Craigslist every few minutes just to make sure that I did not miss any new listings. I was e-mailing people left and right about their apartments. I was sick of people not replying to me and apartments that I liked getting snatched off the market. I was realizing that my attitude was turning increasingly negative.

If you are familiar with the teachings of Abraham-Hicks, the always say, "Don't worry about HOW something will come to you. Just don't get in the way. Have fun. Allow it to show up. Allow the universe to do it's thing." When I realized that I was getting in the way, I knew that I needed to surrender.

I got burned out, and I prayed for some guidance and told the universe that I was ready to surrender. This was right around the time that I found the "creeky apartment" that looked horrible but had a great price and great location. I gave up apartment searching for few days. I told the universe if that apartment was meant to be, then it would be available when I returned from my hiatus. It was snatched up 24 hours later. When I returned from my hiatus a few days later, the 5th listing on craigslist was my apartment. The most hilarious part of this was that the apartment was listed on a page of Craigslist that I had already looked at! I guess I just could not see the listing because I was not a vibrational match to it!

I know that it sounds easier said than done and a bit kooky and honestly, I am still in shock with how this all played out for me, but I promise you that it does work!

AMAZING! I love this story.  This "formula" (for a lack of a better word) can be used to manifest just about anything.  I honestly used this same "formula" to manifest a boy last year.  It worked out soooo wonderfully.  I attracted someone amazing and I hope to attract him back or someone better now... So thank you for posting your story and for reminding me that I have the power to manifest whatever it is that I want.

Thanks Kas! I was sitting here upset that I have too much work to do and how much my coworker annoys me, and then your post snapped me back into reality. I create my own reality. DUH. I need to take my own advice! lol
