What to put on birthday card for ex?

I want to send him a card as it is his birthday in November.  I have found out his address but I am not sending it there, as he has a girl living in the same house who he is obviously seeing; I will send it to either his mother's house or the department he is studying in at the university.

What to put on it though so it is not OTT but gets the right message across??

Keep it short and to the point.  Do not get a romantic card.  Get something humorous.  On the inside write..
Happy Birthday his name and then sign it.  Do not go into how you feel about him.  More than likely he already knows.  Don't say I am thinking about . The fact that you sent the card tells him that.

I think this is a time for you to really be still and listen to your intuition, your inner voice.  It should direct you as to what to write besides the obvious "Hope you have a wonderful Birthday!". 

Only you know this guy and what it is that you want to say to him. 
Start there, let us know and we can go from there.   K?

Also as I said I did not want to post it to his house, so I have contacted the department he is studying in and they will pass it on for me x
