I was just browsing on here and I was wondering some situations I have attracted I feel are because I don't love myself enough or I don't think I deserve to treated well. I really don't know why i have these thoughts but I do . Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't think i'm ugly or mean I just feel like I don't love myself as a person. I feel as if I always to have give to be loved or cared about. Has anyone ever felt similar ? How did you improve it?

chrissy8907, I so know where your coming from. All I've ever been taught is you give and give and give and it will come back to you like karma in different ways the more you give the more receive but time and time again I noticed a trend that the more my family gave the more people came into our lives to take advantage of this giving nature.

I don't ever regret giving to anyone but I think everything needs to be balanced. Give without expecting to receive. Therefore when you give you know it is only from the heart. For balance start to give yourself a little more. So what you would give to others give to yourself. grateful sunshine started this thread.

Instead of doing it for your friends, do it for yourself. List 10 things that you appreciate about yourself. I have to do this myself. I am teaching myself how to love myself and to appreciate who I am to the core. Please let me know how you get on

I still absolutely recommend reading "Fuck it"

Other things that have helped me are:

- try to view yourself in the third person. ie, if you met yourself as someone new, you would probably like them a lot more than you like yourself (I may be wrong, but it was true for me. The things I used to get angry at myself for, one day I realised that if a friend did the same things, I wouldn't make nearly so big a deal of it)

- as a subset of the above - try to be less of a perfectionist with yourself. No one is perfect, so why should you be? Accept that you are human, and have flaws, and that's okay.

- forgive other people when they don't give you everything you need. Like you, they can't be perfect - we're all messed up in different ways, and the more we can accept each others' peculiarities and weaknesses and not take them personally, the happier we'll all be.
