What about all those people who are expecting the worst thing to happen, and something really great happens? How does that work?

I've asked this same question before. A few possible explanations I could come up with: 1) something is wrong with our theory of LOA, or it doesn't exist at all; 2) they had a strong subconscious hope that all would turn out well, and this outweighed the conscious worry; 3) there is a manifestation of collective will or belief, and lots of other people were hoping for / believing in the good outcome.

That is a very interesting question.  I think I agree with Ginny's second explanation.  We have our core values, thoughts, expectations etc.  They out weigh anything in your conscious view.  We may just have a tendency to worry.  You know those types who worry about everything but it always works out.

i used to go by the saying "expect the worst, and anything else is a bonus" - the thing is, though i went by that, deep down i think i thought by saying that that itd mean good things would happen instead, so it was kind of saying one thing but believing another!!

Yeah, but I've had times when I've completely expected the worst - just thought nothing else could happen, not a case of "anything else is a bonus" - and been completely stunned and amazed when something good has happened instead.

I wonder if there is any correlation to level of emotional attachment? So, say you're thinking, "terrible thing x is going to happen, bu there's nothing I can d about it, and I'll be okay". So, you believe the worst, but you haven't put so much emotional energy behind it, so your preference for the good thing can win out.... .

Now I'm trying to think if there have been any times when I've been convinced something terrible would happen, got upset and invested a lot of negative emotional energy in it, and been surprised by a good result?

Hmmm... I think there may have been, which would discredit my hypothesis... No examples are coming to mind yet though.

I have often thought the same thing..

Bcuz i have had situations that just thinking about it would put me into a deep sadness and in some cases completely drain me of any energy or joy....i am a worrier by nature but certain things can really get to me and i won't shake them very easily, i start to dread them.

BUT THEN IT WOULD TURN AROUND IN SUCH A WAY THAT I WOULD BE SO COMPLETELY AMAZED....AND GRATEFUL FOR THE TURN OF EVENTS!

The only thing i can add to all this is that i would work very hard to put it out of my mind, not always with a lot of success but i would always GIVE IT TO GOD and actually say it out loud......''Ok God, this ones yours!!!'' and write down the outcome i desired in my journal, which still seems to work for me.

Like today, i didn't have jury duty.  I was stressing over it so much because i am out of work now, and if i had gotten picked, i wouldn't have had any excuse to get out of it..like having a job, classes, workshops to attend, etc. so when i found out last night that i DID NOT have to attend, i felt God heard me, i was just so relieved, and very grateful especially since in the past, i have had to serve and always hated it.
