Hi,
I do not have any expertise on medicine or medical terms. Can anyone explain me what is "placebo" in layman's language?
Thanks in advance!!!
Hi,
Placebo means putting all the
faith you have in a specific thing or object with total confidence that this is going to benefit you
without doubts but the thing or object has nothing in it.
If you are talking about medical terms, Placebo effects are something like this scenario.
For Example:
A person was diagnosed a Cancer and this Cancer was caused by emotional depression. This doctor has no other medication to support him except telling him to be cheerful and turn his emotional around so that his situation would improve.
However, the doctor knows that a patient's emotion
cannot be changed or convinced easily by words. The doctor then decided to give him some pills to eat, telling him these pills are very useful and it has a direct effect on cancerous cells.
The patient was delighted and he assumed that this is a 100% cure them. The patient's emotional has
gradually improved and more cheerful. The fact is, the pills the doctor gave was nothing in it. It's just simply a pill with no medication. But if this could change the patient's emotional by simply lying to him to remove his cancer, then that's a success
placebo effects.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
