How to neutralize negativity
« on: August 10, 2009, 11:52:05 AM »
I figured out I would like to share a blog entry I have in my website : http://matthewferry.com/blog , I think it is great content so let me share it in this forum:

How to neutralize negativity

Yesterday I posted a thought about how positive people rarely deal with their negativity because they feel it will make them negative.

I proposed that the problem with not dealing with the negativity that lurks below the surface is that it seeps out of you in ways others can sense.  You end up becoming a rose garden with a sewer underneath.

I had some great comments on various social sites that I wanted to address.

Negativity is neutralized by becoming aware of its source.  I define negativity as the resistance you have to what is so.  Life is just lifing along and then you are resisting what ever it is doing.  The past is simply a figment of your imagination that you are now resisting.  The future is a hallucination you are having that you are resiting.  People are just doing what ever they are doing and you are reacting to your opinion of what they are doing.  It’s not what they are doing that bothers you, it is your opinion about what they are doing that is bothering you.

In a nutshell, your opinion is the source of your negativity.  And where does this opinion come from?  Your infinite wisdom?  NO!  The Drunk Monkey in your head!!!!  All hail the great and wise Drunk Monkey.

You have been conditioned like a dog to think that “this is the right way to pee!  That is the right way to dress!  Those are the right behaviors!”  But all of that is just your parents or who ever raised you doing thier best to get you ready for life.  What you believe about the world is not the truth.  What you believe is just conditioning.

Today, just roll with life and watch negativity disapate before your eyes.

Yes. It is only a matter on how you get there. Not everybody gets there because they are defeated by their mind or "Drunk Monkey". The Law of Attraction works, whether we want it to or not.

Good insight and info Mathew...

I assume by "Drunk monkey" you mean our saboteur in chief...."The Ego"..

yeah this really is one of those large stumbling block's isnt it.......some of what lies beneath the surface we are not very aware of.....lol...actually there is quite a lot submerged below the water level....it's rather like an ice-burg...the bit you see on top of the water is just the tip of it...!!

A quote I have been messing around with recently is this..."What we often need to learn the most, we want to hear the least"

Good stuff...cheers for that, Dean

Great Dean!

I call our mind "the Drunk Monkey " because it is one of the factors that stops us from having success. Not knowing how to control or tame the "drunk monkey" will result in chaos, we wouldn't want that, do we?

Our mind is often stubborn and fears many things, because it has only a main purpose : for us to survive.
Success and happiness comes after transitions in our life that involves pain, sorrow, hardships and challenges. The Drunk Monkey does not want that. So something in us tells us to resist change and fear the future, the Drunk Monkey loves to predict the future, making us stop longer and brings us farther from what our heart's desire. our ability to accept changes and challenges in life will definitely lead us to where we want to be.

  • Laughoutloudx3: Calm- that happens in all of my dreams & is a great mystery to me!! And that only happens with him!! Every now & then he will look like him...but some other times he will look nothing like himself, and even more bizarre is that most of the time he looks like a previous ex of mine, but yet it still really is him!! That drives me mad bc I do not know why his face appears as this other ex that I do not care about in that way. I always always know it is my guy though. I just wish he would look like him lol!!!!

  • LifeIsGoodToday: That wasn't the reason for my break though, there was a particular troll, HQ, that come coming back and just really giving the whole forum grief and negativity. It started to affect me. So I moved away for awhile. And honestly, I got so into work and her. I still lurked some, not often. But I think I should have b/c supporting others in a great way to grow in using LoA positively in your life!

  • Calm: Life - sometimes it's good to take a break.  Spending too much time here in a certain state of mind, can make one dwell too much on what one doesn't have, to my mind.  Breaks are good!
