How to attract my dream job
« on: March 09, 2010, 11:02:49 PM »
For the past year and a half I have been in a job that makes me miserable. It is a call center environment and I deal with a lot of negative people everyday. Most people only call because they have a problem and I often get yelled and cussed at by customers.

I started using LOA to make my work experience better and for a few weeks almost all of my calls were pleasant. I was able to calm the customers down and they treated me with respect. Then things in the work environment started changing. People started getting fired out of the blue and moral started to get low. There are no opportunties for growth or advancement and I feel stuck in the position.

I know with the state of the economy I am blessed to have a job. It pays well, has great benefits, and I love my co-workers, but the job itself makes me miserable. Sitting in a chair for 8 hours, taking 70 to 80 calls a day and listening to peoples problems, negative comments, and being yelled at for things that I have no control over and things I had nothing to do with takes a lot out of me and I want out of this environment. I have often gone to my car during breaks and cried. I have taken several vacation days thinking with some time off I would feel refreshed and able to go in with a positive attitude and get through it but it doesn't work. Everyday I have to pray to God to help me get through the day because I feel like walking out.

I have a clear idea of what I want in a job, but I am having trouble attracting it. I would love to walk out and quit, but I can't afford to do that. I have to have something else lined up first before I can quit because I can't afford to go more than a week without any income and I don't know how long it will take to find a new job if I quit.

Today I typed up a resignation letter to my current job. I put the date that I want to turn it in in hopes that I will have acquired a new job by then. I wrote up a detailed list of everything I want in a job. The hours, the pay, the work environment, the benefits I want, how I want my boss and co-workers to be, the type of work I would be doing, how I will feel at work, etc.. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Also I need help figuring out ways to stick it out at my current job until this dream job comes into existence because everyday I feel like just getting up and walking out...

Hello Ibelieve!

I really appreciated reading your post, it is so sincere, so heartbreaking...

All I can say is - you have the right weapons already in your hands and you are ready using them.

I would advice you starting daily affirmations  , everytime you are not working and having a breake or taking a shower, or while queuing up...you repeat them in your head, you see them if you can, you feel gratefull...

The point is you did what you should to start, now is time to put it into action with emotions and especially feeling gratefull. The emotions are the fuel that will bring it into the material reality.

I did that and found a trainee period, then a job- everything I wanted manifested in some way. It is possible, you just need to be patient...

WE ARE IN PROCESS - never forget this - a phrase Ankur used to tell me when I was complaining things are not happening... Everything happens for a reason and you need to find the good point in every situation otherwise you'll get down in negativity and you'll stay there...so please, just stand up and fight for what you deserve - a happy job that makes you feel happy...

Love and peace to you!!!

I believe

Oh this screamed at me.

Been there done that!  I use to work in IT. People only ever phone up to complain and moan. Nobody ever walks into the department and says Hi, Thanks IT for delivering email all the time or fixing my PC.

What most people forget is that we expect a computer to work 8 hours a day without issues and maintenance.  Yet we always get our cars serviced for doing many fewer hours...bygones.

I remember sitting at my desk one day and looking at my screen and saying to myself, is this what I'm going to be doing for the next 40 years.  My mind came screaming back...****** NO.

You're closer than you think to quitting you job. I recognise all the signs... yahoo!

Your big sticking point is you can't afford to quit. This for many appears to often be the case.  Yet, somehow we always make ends meet.

Not being able to afford quitting is actually just a belief. (Yeah, OK,coming on start screaming - I know it is a big one to take on, but really that is what it is).

I left mine, and the first thing somebody said was how could you leave all that money? I couldn't believe it! My immediate response was easy, because I was so unhappy. Had they not noticed? Not the fact that I felt so proud for leaving my job or that it made me happy to. All the other person was concerned about was the money. That really upset me.  They were worried about their own lose. (Or so I think).

When you wrote everything up that you wanted, was it all in the positive?

i.e. I want this...

Or where there I don't want X, Y,Z. change them to I want or I have.

By the sounds of it you have some debts or spending issues too. - I can't afford to go more than a week without any income.

Do you know how easy it is to pay off your debts or change your spending habits? I'd recommend you do this as well. Since if you don't a new job and income will not solve it.  If you earn more money in your new job, you'll spend at that level of income as well.  That is what tends to happen.

Congratulations on writing your resignation letter. That is a great 1st step. It means you are getting serious about leaving.

I'd throw in a few more things too.

What is important to you in a job/career?  List 10 things or until you get stuck and start repeating yourself and the whys.  These are far more important that the 'things' you want in a new job.

With the whys, notice the because I don't want, I need etc.

What is the downside of getting your new job?
Why haven't you gotten it already?

Are you thinking of other people or yourself. Do you blame other people for your current situation.  You need to take charge and be in control.

Find an image or word that represents the END outcome for you. Put up wherever you will see it everyday. i.e. you desk at work, in the car.

All the if, buts and maybes, excuses and reasons I'd EFT away, that is always my tool of choice.

If you are surrounded by negative people who complain about work, the econmy and their job, drop them!

Since you're already stirring and wanting to move, it is just a matter of time.

Good Luck.

Like today I had a craving for pineapple, and someone went up to me and told me that they wanted some pineapple, almost like they read my mind haha.
